Javier Bardem Has a New Role

Tetro is going to be Javier Bardem’s next film. It’s to be directed by the legendary Francis Ford Coppola and will also star Maribel Verdú, and Vicent Gallo.

 It was only a matter of time before another big-time Hollywood director would snatch Javier! But, Penelope Cruz’s novio holds it all in stride, sharing his point-of-view about Hollywood superstardom with a Scottish newspaper:

“But there is a difference between me and an American actor. An American actor has the need to make it in his country. I don’t have that. I have my career in my country, and if something good happens in America, I’ll do it, and there are many great directors here I’d like to work with. But if that doesn’t happen, it doesn’t mean that I don’t have a career. I already have one – in Spain.”

Penelope Cruz Meets the Parents

Oscar winner Javier Bardem did just that recently on the night of his Oscar win. I can see Penelope trading Javiercito stories over some crochetting.

Is the next carpet that Javier walks on…be the one that leads to an officiating priest? And will Lopita be right alongside him, with mama Pilar Bardem in tow?

El Cielo is the Limit for Javier Bardem

Now that Javier Bardem has won the ultimate validation for an actor, Something tells me that he won’t be one of those actors who wins an Oscar one year and then disappear from the face of the Earth, only to resurface in ‘hab.

Up next, he’ll be starring in Tetro, Nine, and of course Vicky Christina Barcelona, the movie that will pair him up with querida Penelope Cruz. Javier seems to be drawn to complex characters, as was the case with his Oscar-nominated role as Anton Chirugh in No Country for Old Men:

People are always saying that Oscars are a curse to a relationship. Once an actor or actress wins an Oscar, a romantic or marital split is not far behind. Wonder if this means that Javier and Penny will split soon?

It would just be something if she were the one presenting Javier Bardem the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at the ceremony. How romantic would that be! Um, assuming that Javier gets the Oscar. But he will. Don’t say I didn’t tell you.

Penelope Cruz Sighting

Mira! It’s Penelope Cruz, arriving at Madrid Airport earlier this week from the Berlinale Film Festival.

She looks a little happier than usual. Actually, lately she’s been looking quite stoked. Wonder if that laptop with those lost revealing photos (and Dios knows what else!) turned up. Or is she thinking about those scenes with Scarlett Johanssen in their upcoming movie?

Javier Bardem Nabs a BAFTA

Javier Bardem won a BAFTA award for his role as Anton Chirugh in No Country for Old Men.

 

Javier has already won a Golden Globe and the New York Critic’s Circle Awards for this role. Javier gave this perspective on his role as Anton recently:

“…he has an internal struggle: ‘the world is corrupted, the world needs some kind of punishment, and I’m here to remind them that.’ He doesn’t have any pleasure in what he does; he almost has pain in doing it.”

And a few words about what the role meant for him as an actor:  

“There was a challenge, which is how to bring the symbolic side of violence into human behaviour, so that people see a human being and not a terminator machine, otherwise we don’t feel for him, we just think, ‘Oh, here comes the machine.’ But at the same time, he has to have this unstoppable machine attitude.”

Wipe what little space you have left on your credenza Javier, ’cause you are going to get an Oscar as well. Don’t say I didn’t tell you, Javiercito. Penelope must be proud.

Latinas on AskMen’s 99 Sexiest Women Countdown

AskMen.com did their annual 99 Sexiest Women countdown and not suprisingly, a lot of Latinas made the list. Those who made the list? I’ve filtered everyone else, so here’s the Latino-friendly list:

#79 Ana De La Reguera. Not a bad choice. According to the website, the sultry Mexican actress earned a 91% on her sexiness report card. 

The site drooled: “engaging brown eyes, perfect complexion, cascading locks, and unforgettable figure… ole”

But how did #78 Nadine Velazquez get a 93% from readers against Ana’s 84%. Go fig. Click on to read the see the other ladies who topped the countdown.

Tom used Penelope and Sofia?

Tom Cruise basically used Penelope Cruz and Sofia all in the name of Scientology expansion…if you believe passages from Andrew Morton’s explosive unauthorized biography of Tommy.

public knowledge: Tom Cruise and Penelope fell in love on the set of Vanilla Sky.

 But according to Morton: the Scientology church approved of Penelope because of ulterior motives: “It didn’t hurt that Tom’s love interest Penelope Cruz came from Spain, a market that Scientology was looking to exploit.”

And La Vergara:

public knowledge: Sofia Vergara and Tommy briefly dated.

But According to Morton: After being zealously courted by Tommy (flowers, romantic text messages, and some good Scientology books), Sofia was put off by Tommy’s bossy possee. She told her comadres that she found out that she was being recruited as a bride for Tommy, only so the Scientology church could use her in recruiting little armies of Scientologists in Latin America.
